The Edge of Finalia

The prophecy spoke of a beast, a raven, a snake ...and a girl who dared to dream in a world where dreams were forbidden.

Finalia has a box for everything--except imagination. Gemma, now a Thirteen, is a misfit. She wears outlawed colors, she won't fill out her Personality Assessment and most dangerously she dreams... It is because of those dreams that this girl and her best friend, Lecko of the Golden Javelin, get thrust into a battle against the Maw, the dark and infinite void which is devouring their universe. As foreseen in the crystal hexagon  long ago, Gemma is a spark who keeps hope alive. Whether she likes it or not, she is the One Whom.

DELORES HAWK spent the years before writing The Edge Of Finalia not being Delores Hawk. Instead, she hiked the Himalayas, wrote plays and movies and books and puppet shows, and visited mysterio places belonging to ancient people. She had children who were mysteries of another kind--but then, confoundingly, they grew up. At crossroads, the Hawk (as she is called, mostly by other fowl, and even the mostly in her imagination) met a young girl who spoke knowingly of wizards. A story was born.
